Where is Romania Located?
During my travels in various parts of the world people often ask me where is Romania located because they have never heard of this country. I created WhereisRomania.com to provide as many details about my country because it is a great place but not promoted enough. In other words I want to urge more people to travel to Romania for an unforgettable experience.Romania is located on the map in the northern hemisphere, at the intersection of parallel 45 north latitude and the meridian of longitude 25 east. Romania is a middle-sized European country with a varied and proportional relief ordered, a temperate climate and a rich hydrographic network.
On the European continent, Romania is located approximately in the middle, at equal distance from the western and eastern extremities. In contrast, Romania is closer to the Mediterranean, southern Europe, than the Arctic Ocean located north of it.
Romania's geographical location is also defined by three natural elements of European importance.
a) is a Carpathian country: Romania focuses on its territory two-thirds of the Carpathian mountain chain;
b) is a Danubian country: the great river crosses Romania limited or almost two-fifths of its length;
c) is a Pontic country: has an opening of 234 km from the Black Sea, which providesa connection with Planetary Ocean and also with many countries of the world;
Romania is not a Balkan country itself, therefore, not part of the Balkan Peninsula, as some sources say. In contrast, Romania is closely linked to the geographical space through its entire history, the relations of friendship and cooperation with countries in the region.
Geo-Economic Coordinates
At the crossroads of the 2nd century and the 3rd century Romania is located on the route or at the intersection of important economic axis:- WEST-West axis connecting Western Europe to the former Soviet space.
- At the intersection of the sea axis (Mediterranean Sea - Black Sea - Caspian Sea) with channel and rivers axis (Rhine - Main - Danube linking the North Sea with the Black Sea)
Romania's neighboring countries are: Ukraine in the North, Republic of Moldova in the North East, the Black Sea in the South East, Bulgaria in the South, Yugoslavia in the South West and Hungary in the North West.
This means that Romania is:
- in latitude - halfway between the Equator and North Pole, a position which gives it a temperate climate;
- in longitude - in the eastern hemisphere of the planet, halfway between the extreme points of Europe, which are Atlantic coast of the Iberian Peninsula and the Urals Mountains.
